This is a question that I’ve been asked many times by people (friends and strangers) throughout New England. Many say to me before I was really a Patsy’rot fan (in other words, before the NFL allowed them to win some games) I used to kinda like the Steelers. Then they ask, do you ever root for the Patsy’rots? You must have a second favorite team, don’t you?
Well after pondering this question a few times when my answer was generally “no, I do not have a second favorite team,” I came to realize I actually do. Although they don’t play any real NFL games, that team is the Steelers practice squad. I don’t care one bit for any other team in the NFL. Cut my veins open and I bleed black and gold.
The Steelers are an institution and a tradition. The Patsy’rots are a make believe team that has bribed its way to winning a few Super Bowls. Ask me how many of the Super Bowls I’ve watched in which the Patsy’rots have participated in and I’ll tell you not one second of any of them.
I’m proud to be a Steeler fan and will never waver in my allegiance.
